Capital One Cup Final Predictions – Betting Preview

Sportingly Better picks out the best football predictions and football betting tips this weekend, as Manchester City play Sunderland in the Capital One Cup final at Wembley.

Capital One Cup Predictions

Manchester City (1.28) v Sunderland (9.00); Draw (5.75)

Manchester City will be looking to claim their first silverware of the season, with Sunderland the opponents in this weekend’s Capital One Cup final at Wembley.

The Citizens have conceded just once in the Capital One Cup this season, whilst an attack that has produced 19 goals in the League Cup this term is likely to be feared, despite the club failing to score in three of their last five games in all competitions.

Last year’s shock FA Cup final defeat to Wigan will guard the Citizens from complacency this time around, but an upset on Sunday looks largely remote, with odds of 5.50 on Sunderland lifting the trophy.

Star striker Sergio Aguero should be fit enough to start for Manchester City after a five-game absence due to a hamstring injury, but Stevan Jovetic and Matija Nastasic are both out.

Manchester City Probable XI
Pantilimon, Zabaleta, Kompany, Demichelis, Clichy, Nasri, Toure, Fernandinho, Silva, Aguero, Negredo

Manchester City beat Wigan, Newcastle, Leicester and West Ham en-route to the final as the club look to win the League Cup for only the third time in their history.

Opponents Sunderland do however know how to beat Manchester City, with the Black Cats having won four of their last seven meetings in all competitions, although all four victories have come at the Stadium of Light.

Gus Poyet will have to do without midfielder Liam Bridcutt who featured for Brighton earlier in the competition, but otherwise the Uruguayan coach will have a full roster of personnel to choose from.

Poyet has hinted that he could make major changes to his starting XI after last weekend’s 4-1 demolition at the Emirates Stadium, with Emmanuele Giaccherini a candidate to start on the left and Fabio Borini pushing for a start up front.

Borini’s darts from the left hand side could cause Zabaleta problems at right back, but the main danger remains that of winger Adam Johnson, who has been in impressive form for Sunderland, having been overlooked by Roy Hodgson for England’s latest squad.

Sunderland Probable XI:
Mannone, Bardsley, Brown, O’Shea, Alonso, Sung-Yeung, Cattermole, Colback, Borini, Johnson, Fletcher

Sunderland have scored two goals in six of their seven ties in the Capital One Cup season and the Black Cats will be confident of claiming at least one goal, despite the quality of the opposition.

The Black Cats have been shown 19 cards in the competition so far, 11 more than any other team and the odds of Sunderland being shown three or more cards at 2.00 is sure to entice a few backers this weekend.

Gus Poyet’s side have won seven of their last 11 matches in all competitions, but Manchester City’s quality should show through to give Manuel Pellegrini his first ever trophy in English football.
