Brazil v Croatia – Betting Tips

After four years and 820 qualifying matches involving 202 teams, World Cup hosts Brazil get the 20th edition of the tournament underway today.

Sportingly Better takes a look at the best value soccer betting tips, as Brazil take on Croatia in the opening game of the 2014 World Cup.

A 1-0 victory over Serbia last week was met with boos and disappointment at the final whistle, as expectations on the host nation continue to reach fever pitch.

Luiz Felipe Scolari has finalised his first XI leaving Wolfsburg’s Luiz Gustavo with the pivotal deep anchor role in midfield, but much of the Selecao’s samba soul and flair will rest firmly on the stars of superstar Neymar, who has scored 22 goals in his last 28 international appearances.

A win on home soil in the Confederations Cup last year may have unduly raised expectations, but the hosts are strong on their own patch, having not lost a competitive game in Brazil since 2002.

Brazil have conceded just two goals in their last nine games, so the odds of 1.80 on a Brazil victory to nil may appeal in the betting markets.

Opponents Croatia will be without the suspended Mario Mandzukic for the opening game of the 2014 World Cup in Sao Paolo, so Hull City striker Nikica Jelavic may come in.

Croatia are in fact unbeaten in five games since Niko Kovac has took over, but a lack of goals and the loss of Mandzukic could see a big play for under 2.5 goals, which can be currently backed at 1.75.

No host nation has ever lost their opening game at the World Cup and the Selecao look poised to kick-off the World Cup party with victory on Thursday.
