With the start of the Premier League season less than a month away, Sportingly Better takes an early look at some of the ante-post betting markets in the Premier League, with West Ham making all the right movements in the transfer market to finish in the top half of the table.

This week’s transfer signing of Ecuadorian striker Enner Valencia for a reported fee of £12 million addressed a much needed lack of firepower that hindered the Hammers play last season, as the club stuttered to a 13th placed finish.
Valencia scored all three of Ecuador’s goals at the World Cup in Brazil over the summer and although the former Pachuca forward earned plenty of admirers during the tournament, a lack of experience in European football may represent something of a gamble for the London club.
West Ham manager Sam Allardyce spoke of “not converting enough chances” during the off-season and the summer captures of Valencia and former Birmingham City striker Mauro Zarate represent a fresh way of thinking in regards to the club’s forward line.
Odds of 3.50 should represent a good return if you’re betting on football, with club owners David Sullivan and David Gold having reportedly told Allardyce that he must finish in the top-half of the table this season.
Former West-Ham striker Teddy Sheringham has been brought in as an attacking coach, but improvements from the supporting cast of Matt Jarvis, Kevin Nolan, Ravel Morrison and Stewart Downing seem equally vital given the need to move towards a more entertaining brand of football.
The East London clubhave added left-back Aaron Cresswell from Ipswich, but the addition of Cheikou Kouyate alongside compatriot Mohamed Diame in the double-pivot partnership could offer the Hammers plenty of drive and energy from the centre of midfield.
The likes of Southampton (2.10), Newcastle (2.37), Stoke (2.62), Swansea (3.75) and Hull (4.33) will all be looking to claim one of the three likely places up for grabs, but West Ham’s movements and overall transfer activity so far seem to be more convincing.
An extra 6-8 goals last term would have given the Hammers the points they needed to have finished in the top half of the table last season and West Ham’s current activity both on and off the pitch should see Sam Allardyce’s side improve their standing this time around.
