Premier League Predictions – 13-14 April
Relegation threatened Sunderland take on rivals Newcastle on Sunday, whilst Southampton face West Ham this weekend, as the relegation battle in the Premier League hots up.
Arsenal (1.25) v Norwich (14.00); Draw (6.50)
Arsenal’s 2-1 victory at the Hawthorns last weekend moved the Gunners to within two points of fourth-placed Tottenham, as Arsene Wenger chases Champions League qualification for the 16th consecutive year.
Arsenal have won six of their last seven matches in the Premier League, but the north London side could be without last weekend’s two-goal hero; Tomas Rosicky with the player suffering from a hamstring problem.
Gervinho could keep his place in the starting line-up after impressing in recent weeks, but both Theo Walcott and Jack Wilshere return for Arsenal, who are now odds-on favourites to finish in the top four this season.
Opponents Norwich have won just one of their last 15 games in the Premier League and the Canaries need another two wins under Chris Hughton in order to guarantee their top flight status this season.
Third-choice goalkeeper Lee Camp will continue to deputise following injuries to both John Ruddy and Mark Bunn, but Anthony Pilkington could be available after overcoming his recent hamstring injury.
Norwich have won just once away from home all season, so it’s the Canaries form at Carrow Road that will give the the East Anglian side the best chance of staying in the Premiership.
Arsenal have scored three or more goals six times at the Emirates Stadium in the league this season and Arsene Wenger’s Champions League hopefuls look set to clear the Asian handicap against Norwich on Saturday.
Arsenal -1.5 Asian Handicap @1.725
Everton (1.44) v QPR (8.00); Draw (4.75)
A late Shaun Maloney free-kick all-but ended QPR’s survival hopes, with Harry Redknapp’s side only managing to pick up a point against relegation rivals Wigan last time out.
QPR have struggled on the road all season winning just two of their 16 matches away from Loftus Road, but the London club have given up on their previous defensive platform, with QPR increasingly desperate for points.
QPR have scored at least two goals in each of their last three away matches in the Premier League. Back QPR to score over 1.5 goals at 4.33.
Bobby Zamora serves the first of his three-match suspension, following the player’s sending off against the Latics last time out, so Loic Remy could be tasked with leading the line on his own after scoring four goals in his last five appearances for the club.
Hosts Everton still have an outside chance of qualifying for Europe and David Moyes’ side go into the weekend unbeaten in their last four games in the Premiership.
The Toffees’ record at home can only be bettered by three other sides in the Premier League and the chance of QPR inflicting only Everton’s second defeat at Goodison Park look slim.
Midfielders Marouane Fellaini and Steven Pienaar both return for Everton to boost David Moyes’ playing arsenal going into the final few games of the season, as the Merseysiders target another top six finish.
Everton have kept only six clean sheets all season in the Premier League and with Loic Remy in-form and well amongst the goals, a clean sheet for David Moyes’ side looks unlikely, with QPR’s agenda looking increasingly desperate.
